A number of British artists and cultural figures have been recognised for their contribution to their fields by being awarded the Queen’s 2019 New Year’s Honours. Sonia Boyce and Alison Wilding were awarded OBEs (Officer of the Order of the British Empire), while Gillian Wearing (who last April revealed her statue of the Suffragist Millicent Fawcett in Parliament Square, London), Yinka Shonibare and Tacita Dean all received a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire). Included on the list are cultural figures such as Andrew Nairne, the director of Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge which reopened last year after a refurbishment project to create a new education wing, who received an OBE, as did Caroline Collier, director of Partnerships and Programmes at Tate. Ann Dumas, a curator at the RA in London, and former executive director of Tate Liverpool Andrea Nixon both received an MBE (member of the Order of the British Empire).
