Mona Hatoum announced as winner of 2015 Hiroshima Art Prize

Lebanese artist Mona Hatoum is the winner of the 10th Hiroshima Art Prize, a triennial award established in 1989 by the city of Hiroshima in Japan to recognise the achievements of artists who promote the notion of peace. Previous winners include Doris Salcedo, Yoko Ono, Cai Guo-Qiang and Shirin Neshat.

Mona Hatoum was born into a Palestinian family in Beirut, Lebanon in 1952 and now lives and works in London and Berlin. She has participated in numerous important group exhibitions including The Turner Prize (1995), Venice Biennale (1995 and 2005), Documenta XI, Kassel, 2002, Biennale of Sydney (2006), the Istanbul Biennial (1995 and 2011) and The Fifth Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (2013). Recent solo exhibitions include Centre Pompidou, Paris; Pinacoteca do Estado, Sao Paulo, Fundación PROA, Buenos Aires; Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha. 

The 10th Hiroshima Art Prize Award Ceremony and Commemorative Exhibition will take place during the Summer and Fall of 2017 at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art.
