Philippe Pirotte, who is currently director of Frankfurt’s Städelschule art school and its gallery Portikus, has been appointed curator of the 2016 edition of the Biennale de Montréal, co-produced with the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC).
Philippe Pirotte (b. 1972, Belgium) is an art historian, curator, and critic. Pirotte was one of the co-founders of the contemporary art centre objectif_exhibitions in Antwerp, Belgium and was Director of the internationally-renowned Kunsthalle Bern in Switzerland (2005–2011). From 2004 to 2013, Pirotte held the position of Senior Advisor at the Rijksakademie for Visual Arts in Amsterdam, and in 2012, he became Adjunct Senior Curator at the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Pirotte also served as Advising Program Director for the Sifang Art Museum in Nanjing and is an advisor for the Kadist Art Foundation (Paris/San Francisco).
The BNLMTL 2016 will take place from 19 October 2016 to 15 January 2017 across multiple venues.
