British artist Haroon Mirza has been announced as the winner of the 2015 edition of the Calder Prize, receiving a cash prize of $50,000 in addition to a residency at the Atelier Calder and the placement of his resulting artwork in a major public institutional collection. Co-founded by the Calder Foundation and the Scone Foundation in New York, the biennial prize is attributed to contemporary artists whose work carries the influence of late modernist sculptor Alexander Calder.

Known for his immersive installations, kinetic sculptures and performances, Mirza has exhibited widely in the United Kingdom and abroad, including at the Liverpool Biennial (2008), Istanbul Biennale (2009), the Palais de Tokyo in Paris (2012), the MoMA in New York (2013) and was the subject of a large retrospective this summer at the Tinguely Museum in Basel. In 2011, Mirza participated in the 54th Venice Biennale and received the Silver Lion award.

18 November 2015.
