Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing has announced that May Xue will step down from her role as chief executive on 20 April, the South China Morning Post reports. Xue’s resignation comes after the UCCA’s founders, Belgian collector Guy Ullens and his wife Myriam, announced in June that they would be selling the centre together with their extensive collection of Chinese art. According to a source, Xue might be joining Adrian Cheng’s K11 Art Foundation, to oversee the foundation’s forthcoming Beijing space, its third in China (after Hong Kong and Shanghai).
Xue first joined UCCA in 2009 as director of UCCASTORE, a concept store celebrating Chinese design, before being appointed chief executive in 2011. During her time there, she oversaw the development of activities supporting UCCA’s many not-for-profit activities, including exhibitions and public program, and in 2015, she completed the Getty Leadership Institute program. Some of her past projects include the planning and coordination of the first Chinese Contemporary Art Awards (CCAA) exhibition in 2008 as well as the management of the VIP reception for the Organizing Committee of the 2008 Olympic Games.
