Paul McCarthy was hit three times by an unknown assailant during the installation of the 24-metre green sculpture in Place Vendôme, Paris, Le Monde reports. The artist was being interviewed at the time. The attacker screamed at the American provocateur that his work, part of the FIAC art fair‘s public programme, was out of place in the public square. It is also believed that the person was angry about McCarthy not being French. McCarthy has said of the work: ‘It is an abstract work… people may be offended if they want to refer to [it as a] plug, but, for me, it is more of an abstraction.’
