Beatrix Ruf has resigned as director of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Her departure comes after allegations in the Dutch press that her art advisory business conflicted with her role at the museum. In 2015, the first full year of Ruf’s employment at the Dutch institution, the profit of her private art consultancy business was reported as €437,306. Amsterdam councillor, Marcel van den Heuvel, notes ‘A well-paid adviser earns €2000 a day, which means that Ruf has done advisory work for at least two hundred days next to her full-time job.’
In her resignation statement Ruf said, ‘Speculation in the media in recent weeks which may have an impact on the reputation of the museum.” A museum spokesperson emphasised to The Art Newspaper that any allegations were just ‘speculation’.
