Anne Barlow appointed as new artistic director of Tate St Ives

Anne Barlow, currently director of the non-profit exhibition space Art in General, New York, has been appointed artistic director of Tate St Ives, replacing Sam Thorne who was named director of Nottingham Contemporary in late 2015, The Art Newspaper reports. She will take up the role as of spring 2017, when Tate St Ives, which has been closed since October 2015 for refurbishment, finally reopens with two exhibitions, The Studio and The Sea (31 March – 3 September). In addition, a new extension designed by Jamie Fobert Architects, which is to house an extended exhibition space and a collection care suite, is scheduled to open in Autumn 2017

Before joining Art in General in 2007, Barlow was previously the curator of education and media programmes at the New Museum in New York, and the curator of contemporary art and design for Glasgow Museums; she also cocurated the Latvian Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013.
