Chisenhale's Polly Staple wins £25k Genesis Prize

Polly Staple, director of the Chisenhale Gallery, London, has won the second Genesis Prize. The £25,000 annual prize, now in its second year, is awarded to an individual who is deemed ‘an outstanding mentor of artistic talent’, by the Genesis Foundation, the brainchild of financier and investment banker John Studzinski. Picking Staple from a shortlist that included Anna Colin (cofounder and codirector of Open School East), Adam Khan (director of Adam Khan Architects), Kerry Michael (artistic director and chief executive of Theatre Royal Stratford East), Sally Tallant (artistic director and chief executive of Liverpool Biennial) and Frederic Wake-Walker (artistic director, Mahogany Opera and The Opera Group); was a jury consisting of the photographer David Bailey, Hamish Dunbar of music venue Café Oto, who won the inaugural prize last year; Hadrian Garrard of Create, David Lan of the Young Vic, Julia Peyton-Jones of the Serpentine Gallery, the actress and director Janet Suzman and Studzinski himself.
