Sam Thorne announced as Tate St Ives artistic director

Tate St Ives has announced Sam Thorne as its new artistic director. Thorne is currently associate editor at Frieze Magazine, and was a founder of Open School East, a free-to-attend art school in East London. Thorne will join the institution in spring 2014, during a major \nextension and renovation project which will see the gallery space almost\n double.

Mark Osterfield, executive director, Tate St Ives commented: ‘Sam’s passion for contemporary arts practice coupled with his interest in the histories of modernism, ideally suit him to lead the artistic vision for our work in Cornwall. He brings a considered and dynamic agenda which champions an ambitious, internationally recognised exhibition programme, within the unique context of St Ives.’
