Stirling Prize shortlist announced

The new extension to the nineteenth century Whitworth gallery has been included on the shortlist for the RIBA Stirling prize, the annual prize for British architecture. MUMA’s design for the institution, based in Manchester, is up against Burntwood School in the London Borough of Wandsworth, designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris; Darbishire Place, a thirteen home social housing block in east London, by Niall McLaughlin Architects; a care centre for the cancer charity Maggie’s in Lanarkshie by Reiach and Hall Architects; Neo Bankside, a luxury apartment block that runs around Tate Modern, by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners; and the University of Greenwich’s Stockwell Street Building by heneghan peng architects which, situated in the a UNESCO World Heritage Site, houses the university library and departments of architecture, landscape and arts. Stirling Prize laureates receive a stipend of £20,000.
