2014 Praemium Imperiale Awards announced

The Japan Art Association has announced that the recipients of the 2014 Praemium Imperiale awards are: 

Painting: Martial Raysse

Sculpture: Giuseppe Penone

Architecture: Steven Holl

Music: Arvo Pärt

Theatre/Film: Athol Fugard

Now in their 26th year, the annual awards grant a 15 million yen honorariuman to individuals in five categories, selected candidates having made a major international impact in their particular field. Previous British winners include David Hockney, Anish Kapoor, Antony Gormley, Norman Foster, Richard Rogers, David Chipperfield, Judi Dench, Anthony Caro and Tony Cragg.

The recipient organisation for this year’s companion award, Grant for Young Artists, is The Zinsou Foundation of Benin.

The awards will be given at a ceremony in Tokyo on 15 October.
