Irina Nakhova has won Russia’s €40,000 Kandinsky Prize for Project of the Year, for her work Untitled, which uses photographs from her family archive in order to preserve the personal memories of living in twentieth-century Russia, in particular Stalin’s harsh regime, under which her grandfather died, The Art Newspaper reports.
Timofei Parschikov and Evgeny Granilshikov were jointly awarded the Kandinsky Young Artist Prize, and given €5,000 each.
The prize, established in 2007, was founded by Shalva Breus, publisher of ArtChronika, in order to raise the profile of contemporary Russian art.
