Pantone releases new purple hue in honour of Prince

The Pantone Color Institute has announced the release of a new shade of purple in honour of Prince, the pop icon who passed away last year, The Guardian reports. Called ‘Love Symbol #2’ after the singer’s logo and custom-made Yamaha purple piano, the distinct hue has become, over his career, emblematic of his persona – from his album and 1984 film Purple Rain, to his wardrobe.

Of the initiative, Laurie Pressman, the vice-president of the Pantone Color Institute, said in a statement: ‘Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.’
