Helen Cammock has been announced as the winner of the 2018 Max Mara Art Prize for Women at a ceremony at the Whitechapel Gallery in London. Established in 2005 in partnership with the London institution, the biennial prize supports UK-based women artists who haven’t had a major solo survey exhibition previously.

Cammock was selected among a shortlist including Céline Condorelli, Eloise Hawser, Athena Papadopoulos and Mandy El-Sayegh. As the winner, Cammock will embark on a bespoke six-month residency in Italy, divided between six cities: Bologna, Florence, Venice, Rome, Palermo and Reggio Emilia. The resulting body of work produced there will be presented in a solo exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery in 2019, before touring to Collezione Marmotti in Reggio Emilia.
