LAXART has announced the appointment of its new executive director, Hamza Walker, The Art Newspaper reports. The position has been empty since Lauri Firstenberg (the founding director of the art space) stepped down earlier this year, causing concern over the future of the Los Angeles-based non-profit organisation. Walker, who was the associate curator and director of education at the Renaissance Society of Chicago and co-organised the 2016 Hammer Biennial with Aram Moshayedi (a former curator at LAXART), will take up the new position on 1 October. Of his appointment, Firstenberg has said: ‘I think Hamza is one of the most important curators in the country and a radical thinker… I wrote a succession plan a year ago, and he was the plan.’
