The South London Gallery was awarded a £254,000 development grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund, towards the transformation of former Peckham Road Fire Station into a new cultural centre. This award follows the gift of the 1867 Grade II-listed building to the South London Gallery by an anonymous donor.

The grant will support the restoration of the now derelict building, located across the road from the gallery, the digitisation of the station’s archive and a programme involving local residents in the development project. A further £1.5m has been earmarked by HLF, to be released when £2m has been raised from other sources.

The renovated Fire Station is scheduled to open to the public in 2018.

15 September 2015.
