The Mondriaan Fund has announced that 83-year-old artist herman de vries will represent the Netherlands at next year’s Venice Biennale. The artist, whose work responds to the relationship between man and nature, was selected by the Mondriaan Fund in consultation with a jury comprising Hester Alberdingk Thijm (Director, AkzoNobel Art Foundation), Saskia Bos (Dean, Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art), Aernout Mik (visual artist), Martijn van Nieuwenhuyzen (Curator, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam) and chaired by Mondriaan Fund director Birgit Donker.
The Stedelijk Museum Schiedam will host a retrospective exhibition of herman de vries, opening October 2014.
