Pinacothèque de Paris has announced it will be closing its doors after 6pm today, nine years after its inauguration in its current site on Place de la Madeleine, The Art Newspaper reports. Marc Restellini, founder and president of the private museum cites a 20-25% drop in attendance over the past two years, as well as a “deathly economic climate, linked largely to the 13 November attacks”, as the main reasons for closure (the museum’s parent company Art Héritage France was put into receivership last November).
However, the museum also announced plans to open two new spaces – one dedicated to sculpture, and the other to tribal arts – within the next three-to-four years, providing they find ‘more economically-manageable premises’. The Pinacothèque’s collection (which mainly includes medium-term loans from collectors), should be distributed between these new spaces, and the museum’s Singapore outpost, opened last May.
