The University of Arts London, whose colleges include Central St Martins, has won a legal injunction against 15 of its students, banning them from protesting on campus. Seven of those named in the legal move, which followed an occupation of the reception area of the Central St Martin building in March, are elected representatives of the student union. The original protest was against plans to axe 580 foundation art and design places. Nigel Carrington, vice-chancellor at UAL, told the Guardian that the university was ‘committed’ to freedom of speech and peaceful protest. Critics might claim that Carrington was committed to double speak too.
