Elena Filipovic announced director of Kunsthalle Basel

Elena Filipovic has been announced director of Kunsthalle Basel, replacing Adam Szymczyk, who left to curate the next Documenta. Filipovic is currently senior curator at the WIELS Centre of Contemporary Art in Brussels. In 2008 the Los Angeles-born curator codirected the 5th Berlin Biennale alongside Szymczyk. Filipovic was selected from a pool of 150 applicants by a committee chaired by Martin Hatebur, president of the Basler Kunstverein. She was featured in ArtReview‘s annual Power 100 in 2011 and 2012, at numbers 89 and 68 respectively.
