The Baloise Group has announced the winners of the 2016 Baloise Art Prize: Sara Cwynar (Canada) for Soft Film, a video essay and Mary Reid Kelley (US) for her film This is Offal (both works 2016). The two artists were selected by a jury which consisted of Marie-Noëlle Farcy, MUDAM, Luxembourg; Sabine Schaschl, Museum Haus Konstruktiv, Zurich; Peter Gorschlüter, MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt a.M.; Dr. Yilmaz Dziewior, Museum Ludwig, Cologne and Martin Schwander, Baloise, chairman of the jury.
An award of £22,000 will be presented at the Statements sector of Art Basel. In addition to the prize money, a selection of works by Cwynar and Kelley will be purchased by Baloise and donated to MMK, Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt a.M. and MUDAM, Luxembourg.
