The e-flux Prize at the 2016 International Short Film Festival Oberhausen has been awarded to Brazilian photographer and filmmaker Louise Botkay for her film Mains Propres (Washed Hands, 2015). The prize, now in its second year, is committed to recognising ‘an exceptional film and video work which reshapes the poetic and electric potential of moving images in the age of planetary circulation of information’. More than 550 works were screened at the film festival earlier this year, 64 of which competed in the International Competition; Polish filmmaker Wojciech Bąkowski won the Grand Prize of the City of Oberhausen. Louise Botkay will receive about £2,500 (€3,000) in prize money.
