Sotheby's and eBay announce partnership

The partnership will launch with a series of live auctions taking place at Sotheby’s headquarters in New York, for which eBay will be creating a new facility on its site for both collectors and first-time buyers, featuring 18 categories of art and collectibles. The intention is for Sotheby’s to be the main destination for live auctions featuring real-time bidding from anywhere around the world.

Bruno Vinciguerra, Sotheby’s Chief Operating Officer, has said that they are joining with eBay to make their sales more accessible to the broadest possible audience around the world. Devin Wenig, president of eBay Marketplaces, has said that the combination of Sotheby’s’ respected name in the business and eBay’s technology platform and global reach will give people access to the world’s finest, most inspiring items – anytime, anywhere and from any device.
