The Whitney Museum of American Art has announced that Jane Panetta and Rujeko Hockley, both members of the museum’s curatorial team, will co-curate the 2019 edition of Whitney Biennial. Panetta, who is currently an associate curator, has most recently worked on solo exhibitions for Willa Nasatir (2017) and Njideka Akunyili Crosby (2015-16) as well as Fast Forward: Painting from the 1980s (2017) and Mirror Cells (2016) alongside Christopher Y. Lew. Her forthcoming exhibition, Juan Antonio Olivares: Moléculas, will open in March 2018. Prior to joining the Whitney early this year, Hockley was assistant curator at Brooklyn Museum where she was involved with numerous exhibitions including Crossing Brooklyn: Art from Bushwick, Bed-Stuy, and Beyond (2014). Since taking up the same role at the Whitney, Hockley has co-curated Toyin Ojih Odutola: To Wander Determined (2017) with Melinda Lang and An Incomplete History of Protest: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection, 1940–2017 (2017) with David Breslin and Jennie Goldstein.
