Polish architect Daniel Libeskind confirms that his studio has been commissioned to design the first major Kurdish arts museum in the city of Erbil, northern Iraq, Artnet reports. Libeskind presented his plans for the museum at the Bloomberg Businessweek Design conference in San Francisco, showing renderings of four interlocking buildings representing the countries throughout which the Kurdish people are scattered – Turkey, Syria, Iran, and Iraq. Libeskind has said “the design had to navigate between two extreme emotions; sadness and tragedy, through the weight of history, and joy and hope, as the nation looks to the future”.
