Star Wars creator George Lucas’s planned Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will be built in Los Angeles’s Exposition Park, the museum’s board of directors has announced. San Francisco’s Treasure Island area had also been under consideration. Lucas has spent almost a decade in the search for a home for his museum, which he is funding himself, planning to spend over $1 billion on the project. The museum will be dedicated to the collection, preservation and presentation of narrative art, a category which ranges from ancient artefacts to contemporary digital media, via painting, photography and film. Exposition Park is also the site of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the California Science Center, home of the space shuttle Endeavour.

In a statement the board said; ‘…Exposition Park is a magnet for the region and accessible from all parts of the city. As a museum uniquely focused on narrative art, we look forward to becoming part of a dynamic museum community, surrounded by more than 100 elementary and high schools, one of the country’s leading universities as well as three other world-class museums.’
