Danish architect Bjarke Ingels and his firm BIG have been selected to design this year’s Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, which is constructed every summer outside the Gallery in Kensington Gardens, London. For the 16th edition – which will also mark the final year of Serpentine co-director and instigator of the commission series Julia Peyton-Jones – the pavilion is expanding to include four summer houses designed in response to Queen Caroline’s Temple (a classical-style summer house built in 1734) by architects between 36 and 93. This year, these architectural follies will be designed by Nigerian architect Kunlé Adeyemi, Berlin studio Barkow Leibinger; Paris-based Yona Friedman and British Asif Khan.
