Sheikh Al-Thani, Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani’s cousin, was Qatar’s minister of culture from 1997–2005, and over the past 20 years has spent £630m on fine and applied art for Qatar’s rapidly expanding museums and for his own collections.
