Artist and screenwriter Pierre Bismsuth’s quest to find a resin rock made by Ed Ruscha in 1979 (named Rocky II, after the Sylvester Stallone film of the same year) and supposedly hidden by Ruscha somewhere in the California desert, has taken to crowdfunding site Indiegogo to complete the project.

A feature in The Guardian details how Bismuth, having employed a private detective and quizzed the artworld to try and locate the fake rock, then employed screenwriters DV DeVincentis and Anthony Peckham to create a fictional screenplay based on the story. The Indiegogo campaign, seeking $150,000 and which ends on 20 February, is to fund the editing of the documentary footage and the filming of the the fictional narrative to create the final film Where is Rocky II?

Established artists who have recently successfully crowdfunded include Marina Abramovich, who raised over $661,000 (£432,200) in 2013 for her Marina Abramovic Foundation, Alex Hartley who raised almost £25,000 in 2014 for the production of his Nowhereisland: The book and Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, who raised over £6,000 last year to complete the latest instalment of her film project Hermitos Children 2.
