Eran Neuman has resigned from his role as director of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem less than a month after his appointment, returning to his role as director of the David Azrieli School of Architecture at Tel Aviv University, Art Asia Pacific reports.
Neuman was appointed to the position after a nine-month head hunt, replacing James Snyder, who had been at the institution for over 20 years (Snyder became international president and director emeritus of the museum, a newly created position). While a statement issued by the museum cites ‘differences of perception in his role and working conditions’ as reasons for Neuman’s departure, other commentators advance that Snyder’s continued involvement with the museum might have been a point of discord. Israel Museum deputy director Ayelet Shiloh-Tamir will become acting director until a replacement is found.
