The New Museum and Rhizome have released The Art of Dissent, a new film by Laura Poitras, which documents the making of Ai Weiwei and WikiLeaks / Tor Project activist Jacob Appelbaum’s collaborative artwork Panda-to-Panda, for which they stuffed 20 toy pandas with shredded Edward Snowden documents and an SD card (contents unknown, supplied by Appelbaum). The pandas (the word panda is used in China to describe a member of the secret police) were distributed to art, technology, and free-speech activists around the world, including Julian Assange and Edward Snowden himself. The film has been released as part of art-tech conference Seven on Seven.
