Photographer Rasel Chowdhury was announced as the winner of the 2016 Samdani Art Award, attributed on the occasion of the Dhaka Art Summit that took placed this weekend. Hosted by the Dhaka-based Samdani Art Foundation, the biennial prize aims to support emerging artists between the ages of 22 and 40 who live and work in Bangladesh through an all expenses paid, three-month residency at the partnering Delfina Foundation in London.
Chowdhury was selected from a shortlist of 13, including Shumon Ahmed, Gazi Nafis Ahmed, Palash Bhattacharjee, Samsul Alam Helal, Zihan Karim, Ashit Mitra, Salma Abedin Prithi, Rupam Roy, Atish Saha, Shimul Saha, Rafiqul Shuvo and Farzana Ahmed Urmi.
