Hans Mayer, founder of Galerie Hans Mayer and founding member of the Kunstmarkt Köln (art market Cologne), predecessor of Art Cologne, has been awarded the Art Cologne Prize 2015. The annual prize is awarded by the German association of galleries and art dealers (BVDG) and Koelnmesse for exceptional performance in the communication of art.

Galerie Hans Mayer, which celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year is known for its cross-artform events incorporating theatre, fashion, dance and music, including Steve Reich’s first concert in Germany, in 1972, and several performances by Kraftwerk.

Previous winners of the prize include Nicholas Serota (2004), Rudolf Zwirner (2006), Harald Falckenberg (2009), family Grässlin (2010), Michael Werner (2011), Fred Jahn (2013) and Rosemarie Schwarzwälder (2014).

The award will be presented during Art Cologne on 16 April.
