The Museum of Modern Art in New York has announced the launch of a new ‘Scholars in Residence’ scheme funded by The Ford Foundation, calling for ‘thinkers who offer fresh perspectives on the history of modern and contemporary art’. Working primarily with the museum’s collection and archive, three selected scholars will be supported in their year-long research projects by MoMA’s resources, and will contribute to curatorial conversations around acquisitions, exhibitions, programming and how the museum’s collection is presented.

MoMA requests nominations and self-nominations from scholars who will be able to demonstrate a previous record of achievement in research, and who can ‘add new layers of meaning to works in the Museum’s collection’. In a press statement released by MoMA, ‘the Museum strongly encourages applications from those groups historically underrepresented in the Museum field’. Each scholar will be provided with an annual stipend of $185,000.
