After closing all three locations last month to comply with city-wide regulations concerning COVID-19, the Metropolitan Museum of Art will be getting rid of 81 members of staff, most of whom are in customer service and retail positions. In addition to this, president and CEO Daniel H. Weiss and director Max Hollein will each be taking 20 percent salary cuts while other staff in executive roles will be taking cuts of 10 percent.
The news comes after a readjusted budget shortfall of $150 million, which is significantly larger than previously announced. Museum officials expect to reopen in July, after the now-cancelled plans to celebrate the 150th anniversary in June.
