The Whitney Museum of American Art has appointed Meg Onli as Curator-at-Large, a role which has been vacant for the past fifteen years. For the position, Onli hopes to explore conceptualism and constructions of identity. Her upcoming projects include a Roy Lichtenstein exhibition, which will be co-curated with artist Alex Da Corte and Scott Rothkopf, the incoming director of the museum. The show will open in 2026.
Onli is currently co-curator of the 2024 Whitney Biennial, along with Chrissie Iles. Previously, she served as the co-director and curator at Los Angeles’s Underground Museum and curator at the ICA Philadelphia, where she curated the exhibitions: Colored People Time: Mundane Features, Quotidian Pasts, Banal Presents and Jessica Vaughn: Our Primary Focus Is To Be Successful.
The Whitney’s assistant curator Laura Phipps, who recently curated the retrospective of American artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith at the institution, has also been promoted to associate curator.
