Icelandic artist Hreinn Friðfinnsson has died aged 81.
Working continuously for over seven decades in performance, sculpture, and installation, in a manner that would be eventually labelled lyrical conceptualism, Friðfinnsson often made use of mundane materials, like paper, cardboard, or mirrors, to create playful situations that would quietly shift perceptions and expectations.
Living in Amsterdam since 1971, he had recent large scale exhibitions at the Museum of Art and Design, Miami, and a 2019 retrospective at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève and KW Berlin, taking part in the 2017 Skulptur Projekt Münster.
