This year’s public programme in the Swiss Engadin valley explores hope through the lens of today’s urgent issues
Every year at the end of January E.A.T. / Engadin Art Talks brings together leading thinkers from the arts and connected creative, scientific, and humanitarian disciplines as well as art professionals and collectors amongst others, in the Swiss Engadin valley.
This year’s public programme of the E.A.T. Forum will revolve around HOFFNUNG? HOFFNUNG! (‘Hope? Hope!’), and will take place from 27-29 January 2023. Throughout the weekend, presentations, panel discussions, and participatory happenings that address current themes of our world: the artistic practices of some contemporary artists; the exploration of humanitarian, social, cultural, and political issues; the search for novel responses to the climate change crisis; and the investigation of new visions of our social lives. The aim of E.A.T., then, is to critically address topics that define our present and shape our future.
This year’s speakers are the artists Ai Weiwei, Aïsha Devi, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy, Ernesto Neto, Barbara Stauffacher Solomon, Camille Henrot, and Natsuko Uchino; visionary art collector Uli Sigg; Palestinian architect Sandi Hilal; Belgian landscape architect Bas Smets; innovation ETH researcher Catherine De Wolf; French retro-explorers Loïc Rogard and Cédric Carles; the member of the Roundtable for the New European Bauhaus Francesca Bria; author and scholar Mohomodou Houssouba; former CEO of Human Rights Watch Kenneth Roth; and former President of Germany Joachim Gauck.
The programme has been curated by internationally renowned curators and scholars Hans Ulrich Obrist (Artistic Director, Serpentine Galleries, London), Daniel Baumann (Director, Kunsthalle Zürich), Bice Curiger (Artistic Director, Fondation Vincent Van Gogh, Arles), and Prof. Philip Ursprung (Prof. for the History of Art and Architecture and Dean of the Department of Architecture, ETH Zürich) together with Cristina Bechtler.
Since its foundation as a non-profit Forum for art, architecture, design, literature, and innovation, E.A.T. has featured more than 330 international speakers and contributors. In addition to the annual Forum in Zuoz, E.A.T. also presents a nomadic series of talks and collaborations with international institutions throughout the year in some of Europe’s cultural capitals.
