Chisenhale Gallery has appointed Edward Gillman as its new director. Gillman will take over from Zoé Whitley, who became director in 2020 and announced she was stepping down last December.
Edward Gillman joins from the nonprofit visual arts institution Auto Italia where he worked for 11 years, including five years as director and two as co-director. Under his leadership, the London-based institution commissioned over 100 artists from a range of disciplines and geographies with the objective of ‘expand(ing) the traditionally Anglo-American scope of queer visual cultures through its artistic programme’.
Speaking about his appointment, as the gallery approaches its 45th anniversary, Gillman stated that ‘it’s a true privilege to step into the role of Director at Chisenhale Gallery, an institution with an extraordinary legacy shaped by generations of visionary artists and directors.’
