ArtReview collaborated with furniture brand Roche Bobois to commission and produce a charity art project to support UK arts organisations Vital Arts and Gasworks. Eight artists were commissioned to reinvent seating components from the brand’s iconic Mah Jong sofa system for an exhibition and auction in London.

The artists included Pio Abad, Larry Achiampong, Cornelia Baltes, Patrizio Di Massimo, Georges Eksts, Lauren Godfrey, Peter Liversidge and Joby Williamson. Each produced a unique work, based on the original sofa designed by Hans Hoper in 1971.

The artworks were exhibited at Roche Bobois Chelsea, London, 5–10 April 2016, and then auctioned off on 21 April at The Great Hall at St Bartholomew’s, London. The monies raised went to two London-based charitably funded arts organisations: Vital Arts, which delivers art projects for the well-being of patients, staff and the wider hospital community at Barts Health NHS Trust; and Gasworks gallery and studios, which operates a programme of exhibition opportunities, studio spaces and residencies for early-career London-based and international artists.

ArtReview also produced a catalogue to accompany the project, which was distributed with the April 2016 issue of the magazine.
