The Australia Council for the Arts has announced that artist Marco Fusinato and curator Alexie Glass-Kantor will take on Australia’s pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale, scheduled to take place from 23 April to 27 November 2022. Fusinato’s projects straddle installation, performance and recording – including his work as a noise musician, using electric guitar and mass amplification – combining ‘allegorical appropriation with an interest in the intensity of a gesture or event’. Glass-Kantor is currently executive director of Artspace, Sydney.

Meanwhile, the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo has lined up artist Jonathas de Andrade and curator Jacopo Crivelli Visconti to represent Brazil in Venice next year. De Andrade works across film, photography and installation to explore histories of colonialism and its legacy. Crivelli Visconti was recently curator of the 34th Bienal de São Paulo (reviewed here).
