Online retail giant Amazon are expected to launch a virtual gallery later this year, the Art Newspaper has recently reported, along similar lines to its Amazon Wine operation which launched last autumn and works directly with vinyards. Amazon has apparently approached dealers across the US who have said that commission would be from sales conducted through the site rather than from the galleries paying a monthly fee. Commissions would range from 5% to 15% based on the work’s sale price.
